Did you know that this cake was born out of spite? The story goes that during the Bourbon reign, a coin containing a copper alloy was minted to replace the richer alloy of gold and silver. The Sicilian people, with the introduction of such an “offensive” coin, thought well to create a cake that reproduced that coin, thus inventing the “Copper of Naples.” On the other hand, we know, with certainty, why these sweets with chocolate, honey and orange peel are the most sought-after of the All Saints’ Day festivities: they are delicious!
